SPORTIVE ECOTOUR: Ninfa-Cavata bike-canoe

 

Guided tour of the enchanting Ninfa’s Garden, a bicycle ride through Pontino’s farms, canoeing on the River Cavata to the natural springs, in a unique atmosphere!

Departure from Latina railway station (subway exit at Sermoneta side) to the Ninfa Garden on BICYCLE accompanied by our operator (own or rental bicycle). Guided visit to the Garden of Ninfa, stop for a lunch break and always in BICYCLE, up to the NATURAL REGIONAL MONUMENT“Monticchio Spring Area”. Arrival at CAVATA River springs and downhill to CANOA.

Cavata River was born at the base of the Lepini Mountains and crosses fascinating places that, for a real miracle, survived land deforestation and exploitation for agricultural purposes. You start with the canoe from the origins of the river under the magnificent landscape of the medieval village of Sermoneta.

Slowly falling down to the confluence of main branch of the river, fed by numerous springs in the Wood of Monticchio. This bifurcation, guarded by a very high age poplar, offers a wonderful view of Sermoneta and the ancient Norma perched on the Lepini Mountains.

Going up the river you will come to a small dam built with fallen trees, creating a pond overlooking the crystal clear water, where in summer you can stand for a wonderful regenerating cold bath. At this point you can still see some polished stones, probably parts of the old river port.

The trail includes a visit to the ruins of the Water Machine (Leonardo Da Vinci), where the masonry parts of the old pumping plant were made visible.

After the canoeing trip you will come back in BICYCLES at Latina railway station.

excursion between the farms and the canals of the BONIFICA PONTINA to Ninfa

access to the Garden of Ninfa with a guided tour.

continue cycling in the Agro Pontino to Cavata River

15.00: guided Canoeing Tour on the Cavata River.

continue cycling in the Agro Pontino to the parking lot of LATINA railway station (Sermoneta side)

18.45: bicycle is back to the info point of Latina Railway station.

ROAD INDICATIONS FOR REACHING

  1. By car from Latina Scalo, the road in the direction (mountains, directions to Latina) over the bridge over the Latina railway line goes over to the right the Sermoneta Shopping Center in Borgata Carrara and roundabout turn left following station indicating
  2. By train from Roma Termini or Napoli Centrale; stop at Latina station.

DIFFICULTY

Hiking, biking and canoeing; practicable even by non-experienced minimum required sports skills. Capacity to use 2 or 3 seater canoes. Children must be accompanied by parents or an adult. The adult accompanying the minor on the tour assumes full responsibility.

EQUIPMENT

On bicycle: comfortable sportswear.

In canoe: we recommend a sportswear with long trousers, cap and closed shoes. Shoes, especially children’s shoes, should never be removed during downhill runs. You need a change of dress, a small towel and water to drink. For hiking in the hot season it is suggested to wear the swimsuit under the dresses. For hiking in the cold season it is suggested to wear sweatshirts and waterproof jackets over the clothes, to protect themselves from the cold by splashing water and rain.

WARNINGS

  • Please reach Latina Scalo’s info point 15 minutes in advance of the booked time.
  • In any case, the groups will leave at the established time in order not to penalize the other timely participants and to avoid confusion in the subsequent departures of the tours.
  • The reception and distribution service for the Ecotour tickets is however operative at the Latina Scalo LATO SERMONETA car park (ask the locality Borgata Carrara in the municipality of Sermoneta).
